If you are starting out fresh in Internet Marketing, you are going to find that there are many ways you can make money online. It can be very confusing and trying to focus on one thing or another is next to impossible. With that in mind, I am going to present a series of blog posts that allow you to focus on just one aspect of internet marketing. Each will allow you to quickly and easily get started. For the first post in this series, I have chosen Blogger.com.
Blogger.com (or Blogspot.com) is operated by Google. You can easily set up a blog on virtually anything in a matter of minutes. With many automated tools and gadgets, your blog can be as customized and unique as you choose to make it.
First off, go to Blogger.com and click on the link “Create A Blog”. This will send you to a page that allows you to set up an account with Blogger.com.
Make sure you enter all information they request and take time to read their Terms of Service. If you already have other Google services, you can opt to use the same email address for Blogger. Once all information is entered and you click Continue, you are sent to a screen to create your first blog! It is that easy!
Below you can see what your set up page looks like. You are required to out in a Blog title, the Blog address (URL) and a word verification. What is great when you are setting up your blog is that you can check if the URL you chose is available.
Don’t be shocked if your first choice is not available. You can either try another URL or sometimes adding hyphens (- or dash) between words.
You cannot use spaces or underscores (_) to create your URL.
For example, your blog was titled, Golf Clubs For Kids, and your chosen URL was golfclubsforkids.blogspot.com. What you might find is that golfclubsforkids.blogspot.com is taken. What you can do is simply add a hyphen here or there to get your own unique URL with those keywords, such as golfclubs-forkids.blogspot.com.
Once you have successfully obtained an available URL, your next screen presents you with templates to choose from. Don’t get caught up in which to use as you can very easily choose a different template later on. One new tool that Blogger.com is testing is Blogger in Draft which gives you some extended tools to set up your blog. I will create a blog post later on that goes into more detail about Blogger in draft.
Once you have chosen your template, you are done – congratulations. In the most basic and bare-bones sense, your blog is viewable. There will be little to see, and from this point we begin to add different components – posts, images, affiliate links, etc – to make the blog unique to us.
A blog is short for weblog, and was originally meant as a place to post your daily writings, thoughts, etc. Knowing that, what you want to get in the habit of doing (right now!) is creating daily posts for your blog. Google loves new and unique content and by posting daily you are going to have google (and searchers) coming back more and more.
Next post, I will go into more details about the inner workings of Blogger.com. Between now and then, please log in and look around – you will more than likely begin to see how easy this online platform is to use.
