Getting Started Online

In order to make money online, it is recommended to have a web presence. You can go with free options like blogger.com, try a variety of social bookmarking sites, or you can register a domain of your own.

Having your own domain gives you a sense of professionalism and let’s the visitors know you mean business. With all the scam sites on the ‘net these days, it is comforting to visitors to see that you took the time to create a web site – and to them this translates as a legitimate business.

Take some time choosing a domain name. Consider what you want to do online – and what will catch a customer’s attention quickly. I will look at it in a later article, but one good idea for a domain name is to choose one based on heavy searches. For example, let say that people are searching for car parts. Let’s say that you discover there are a number of people searching for car parts for vintage automobiles. You might find that the domain “vintageautoparts.com” is available. Being specific with a web page name helps get you ranked in the search engines much more quickly.

Once you have an idea for a web site domain name, you need to get yourself a host. I would recommend you stay away from the free sites. Most of the time you have to advertise with banners on the site and it gives your business a less than professional look. I would recommend checking out Bluehost. They have some great starter packages and if later you choose to upgrade to a reseller account, you can do so very easily.

Once you have a domain name, and have it successfully registered, it is time to work on the design for your web presence; and that means a whole other set of choices to be made.
